How do we measure Plate movements?
Earthquakes, volcanoes, and mountain length are evidence of plate movement. Scientists now use satellite and laser technology to measure the exact movements of the plates. New data is saying that parts of the the crust are moving from 1 to 12 cm each year. For example, the Atlantic Ocean is getting bigger and bigger. North America and Europe are being carried about 3 cm farther apart each year.
